Breaking News: Reopening of Work Permits for the Innovation Stream Pilot Program

On April 15th, the Canadian Immigration Department (IRCC) introduced a new pilot program for a duration of two years. This program allows Canadian companies to attract highly skilled foreign workers without the need for a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). It applies to occupations classified under National Occupational Classification (NOC) levels 0, 1, 2, and 3. Individuals interested in immigrating to Canada can contact Parmida Immigration.

The Innovation Stream Pilot program will run for two years until March 22, 2026, unless changes are made. Family members of eligible foreign workers can benefit from an Open Work Permit, allowing them to work in Canada for almost any employer without restrictions.

Introduced by Canada’s Ministry of Immigration, Technology, and Innovation on June 27, 2023, this program introduces a new innovation stream to attract talented workers to help create innovative businesses.

To apply for a work permit under this pilot program, foreign individuals inside or outside of Canada must have a job offer from an eligible employer under the Global Hypergrowth project. Applicants must submit their application through their IRCC account. The job offer must correspond to one of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) jobs in levels 0, 1, 2, or 3, with the proposed wage equal to or higher than the hourly wage set for each region. Immigration officers must ensure that applicants have the necessary skills for the intended job. Currently, a limited number of companies in Canada are eligible to hire foreign individuals without the need for an LMIA assessment through this program.
